Sweet Charity Cancels Broadway Engagement
The Broadway bound production of Sweet Charity, announced to begin performances April 4th at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, will play its final performance at Boston’s Colonial Theatre at 7:30 PM this Sunday, March 27th.
The show played at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis February 8-20, and Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre February 24-March 13.
Christina Applegate played the title role until she broke her foot during a performance on Friday, March 11th. Charlotte d’Amboise assumed the role throughout the Boston run.
“The Sweet Charity company is one of the most gifted and talented group of individuals I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. I know I speak on behalf of my partners when I say how deeply proud we are of everyone who worked on this production. However, our weak sales on the road and in New York have left us with little choice other than to make the painful but fiscally responsible decision to close the production in Boston. I want to acknowledge the contributions of Christina Applegate, Denis O’Hare, Walter Bobbie, Wayne Cilento and Charlotte d’Amboise, all of whom are nothing short of extraordinary,” said producer Barry Weissler.
