‘Wicked’ star shines
It’s 20 degrees and a wind is ripping outside of the Gershwin Theatre in New York, but 300 rabid fans of the hot musical “Wicked” huddle together and watch tickets tumble in a rotating bin.
A Gershwin usher pulls out a ticket, calls a number, and a screaming fan jumps up and down all the way into the lobby to buy her $25 front-row ticket.
“Oh, my God, oh, my God,” the teenage fan chants as she stares at her ticket.
The daily lottery gives fans a shot at 28 bargain front-row seats to “Wicked,” which just might be the hottest show in town on this freezing Saturday.
“Wicked,” which takes a new look at “The Wizard of Oz,” is sold out for months in advance, and most tickets sell for $100. A sign permanently attached to the lobby wall tells patrons the show is sold out.
